Caroline Litchfield and Tom Burton, of law firm Brabners Chaffe Street’s Manchester office, led a team who advised Burnley-based PVC windows firm VEKA on its acquisition of Bowater Building Products for an undisclosed sum. The team included Ruth Hargreaves, Leo Carroll and Paul Nicholls.

*Corporate partner James Sheridan led a team at Manchester solicitors Turner Parkinson who  advised on Swiss-based pharmaceutical firm Shield Therapeutics on an investment by Inventages Venture Capital which values Shield at euros 35m.

*Alison Loveday and Keith Kennedy, of Manchester law firm Berg Legal, advised Darren Blackhurst on his appointment as chief executive of discount retailer Matalan. He worked at Tesco and then Asda before joining Skelmersdale-based Matalan.

*Manchester-based advisers played key roles in The Hut Group's acquisition of online sports nutrition brand Myprotein. Partner Paul Jefferson and Jemma Bolton led a team at law firm Gateley who acted for The Hut Group, while Addleshaw Goddard's Jim Tully and Duncan Wilson advised Myprotein founder Oliver Cookson. Simon Lord, Andy Clarke and Phil Frame, of Altium Capital, also advised Myprotein.

*Corporate partner Peter Allen led a team at the Manchester office of law firm DWF who advised Glasgow-based First Milk on its acquisition of Fife's Kingdom Cheese and Kingdom Dairies. The DWF team included Lisa Stavropoulos and Lucy Shenton.

*Ross Andrews, a director at Manchester-based Zeus Capital, led a team who acted as nominated adviser and broker to EKF Diagnostics Holdings on its proposed acquisition of US-based Stanbio Laboratory and a related £13m fundraising.

*Managing partner Matt Fleetwood led a team at Manchester-based boutique law firm Heatons who advised Aurora Fashions on a restructuring which sees its Karen Millen business established as a separate legal entity. The Heatons team included Jim Truscott, Anoushka Nanji and Lisa Bridgwood.

*Lawyers at the Manchester office of Gateley advised on the acquisition of lighting manufacturer Designplan Lighting by Sweden's Fagerhult Group. Designplan is based in Sutton, Surrey. Gateley's team was led by Khurshid Valli, Jemma Bolton and Mark Halliwell.

*Ian Maycock, a director in the Manchester office of valuation specialist Charterfields, was part of a team who advised US company Progress Rail Services on its takeover of Balfour Beatty Rail's UK track work manufacturing business.

*Manchester-based advisers played key roles in a deal which saw Crown Paints sold  by private equity house Endless to Danish coatings supplier Hempel. Andy Westbrook led a team at Deloitte, while Jonathan Robinson, Danny Hall and Alisdair Outhwaite, of Eversheds, provided legal advice. John Hughes and Dave Laxton, of KPMG, also acted on the deal.
