Tests conducted by the BRE have shown that windows made from Accoya wood can last up to 60 years. Accoya is a timber that has undergone a treatment process called acetylation that enhances natural timber’s durability. The BRE conducted field tests over 13 years that demonstrated acetylated timber lasted longer than wood treated using ASA preservatives.
Lock specialist Abus has received BSI Kitemark certification for its cylinder locks made to BSEN1303. The Kitemark was awarded on the ability of the lock to withstand key copying, snapping and drill attacks.
Fenestration specialist Bowater Building Products has added two CPD seminars to its training service. The seminars are called, “A guide to sustainable curtain walling” and “An introduction to energy efficient fenestration” and are aimed at architects, cost consultants, contractors and clients including local authorities.
Window maker Profile22 says it is the only PVC windows company to receive a BRE Green Guide A+ rating for its RECO22 range of windows. Profile22 said PVC-U windows had previously received A+ ratings for commercial applications but this was the first time the rating had been awarded for domestic applications. The window profile is made from 100% recycled PVC-U.

The company said this made it the only steel window maker that provides a complete design, fabrication and installation service in the UK. Wrightstyle is providing installer training programmes at its HQ to ensure installers fully understand how the products operate and are installed.
